When not to buy another chatbot
Chatbots fail when they are stranded from systems of record. Here is when to skip the purchase and fix integration first.
Buying another chatbot is easy. Making it trustworthy is not.
The stranded model problem
If the assistant cannot see order state, customer history, policies, or ticket context, it will hallucinate confidently. Users notice. Trust collapses.
Buy a chatbot when…
You have a narrow, well-bounded FAQ with stable content, clear escalation to humans, and no need for write-backs into core systems. Even then, measure deflection and quality—not vanity opens.
Do not buy a chatbot when…
Your real problem is handoffs, missing APIs, unclean data, or operators living in three tools. A chat UI will not fix orchestration debt. You need AI-first integrations and workflow design first.
What good looks like
